How Stress Affects Blood Pressure and How the Smart Remed.care Blood Pressure Monitor Helps You Keep It Under Control

Hello! I’m Andrii Nakonechnyi, a cardiologist at the Remed telemedicine center, and today I want to talk about a topic that is especially relevant for many people right now.

In these challenging times, we all face constant pressure: air raid alerts, news from the front, economic difficulties, and personal worries. These are not just words — this is the daily reality that affects our health. Many patients come to me with complaints of elevated blood pressure, and stress is often the underlying cause.

Let’s break down how stress affects blood pressure, why it’s important to control it, and how modern technologies can help.

First, let’s briefly explain what stress is and how it works

Stress is a natural reaction of the body to danger. When we sense a threat, the brain activates the “fight or flight” mode: hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are released. This leads to a faster heartbeat, narrowed blood vessels, and, as a result, increased blood pressure. In the short term, this is useful — it helps the body mobilize. But in conditions of chronic stress, which has become part of everyday life, this mechanism begins to harm us.

Let me explain in more detail

Blood pressure consists of two numbers: systolic (upper) and diastolic (lower). Under stress, systolic pressure may jump by 10–20 mmHg or more. If stress is constant, this leads to hypertension, which is chronically elevated blood pressure.

According to the WHO, stress is one of the key risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack or stroke, which are among the most common causes of death. Chronic stress worsens sleep, affects eating habits, and increases smoking — creating a “vicious circle.”

But how exactly does stress “attack” the cardiovascular system?

Stress hormones force the heart to work harder, exhausting the myocardium. Blood vessels narrow, increasing the risk of blood clots or vessel rupture.

In my practice, I often see patients who ignore high blood pressure because they don’t feel it. This is a major problem. High blood pressure is called a “silent killer” precisely because it often has no symptoms — until a tragedy happens. I’m sure you’ve heard stories of seemingly healthy people who suddenly died. They died not “just like that” — this is often uncontrolled, asymptomatic hypertension, and we know how to prevent it. Older people are especially vulnerable, but stress affects everyone — even the young.

Now, how can we fight this?

As a cardiologist, I always recommend regular blood pressure monitoring. And this is where modern technologies come to the rescue. We offer smart blood pressure monitors that don’t just measure pressure once but work like Holter monitors — recording data throughout the day or night. Everything is transmitted to our mobile app, where you can view charts, trends, and share them with us, your doctors. This is an ideal solution: no need to visit the clinic every time, your data is available online, and I can analyze it remotely. Our devices are accurate, certified, and easy to use.

To sum up, stress is an invisible enemy that strongly affects blood pressure. It can lead to serious complications or even death, but timely control and prevention save lives. Don’t ignore the signals your body gives you: if you notice pressure spikes, even without symptoms, it’s time to take action.
